The University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Sustainability Committee invites the public to a presentation about the future of clean energy by Hawaii Electric Light Company from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday in UCB Room 100.

“A Clean Energy Future for Hawaii Island” will be presented by Jay Ignacio, president of HELCO.

Under Hawaii law, the renewable portfolio standard calls for 40 percent of electricity sales to be from renewable resources by 2030.

HELCO aims to exceed this target, adding as much renewable energy as possible that is affordable, safe and reliable.

Since 2008, the company has doubled the percentage of electricity supplied from renewable resources across Oahu, Maui County and Hawaii Island.
